A Quake! A Quake!

So today was a super-duper exciting day!  First, I was sleeping and at about 9 AM my big 85 pound chocolate lab (Toby) came in and stuck his wet nose against my face and then curled up next to me.  I fell back asleep, UNTIL 11:42!  That was freaking scary.  If you live in a cave and haven't heard yet, at 11:42 AM PST, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Southern California area.  Now, I love earthquakes and I find them very exciting, but never again in my life do I want to be awakened by one.  I have a lot of stuff in my room on shelves, a shelf right above my head where I sleep (Smart, huh?  At least it's little.), and pictures hanging all over (again, some are over my bed...I win the genius award...I'm not moving them though ahaha because I have no more wall space).  The tremors were very small at first and I thought that either a large truck was going by, because my house tends to shake when they do pass, or my dad was doing something with a power tool since we're remodeling our bathroom.  The shaking seemed a little powerful for either of those but they seemed like viable options.  Before I could roll over and go back to sleep, however, the shaking got VERY intense.  My large shelf unit next to my bed began shaking violently and I shot up, screamed (which shows how surprised I was because I'm not really a screamer), and flung myself into the center of my bed (which, again, I'm very smart because that put me directly under my fan) and watched with blurred vision (because I was way too startled to put my glasses on) as numerous stuffed animals, plastic spears, and Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp dolls came flying at me, and most of it landed on my bed where I had been laying so I'm glad I moved.  I probably should have tried to get under a table or something but with two computer towers under my desk I wouldn't be able to fit there, and to get to the dining room table I would have had to run into the hall past my cabinet which was propelling all of my lotions everywhere, through the door, through the living room (dodging the wall-mounted TV in case it fell), and under the table (where small glass knick-knacks were being propelled).  So I suppose I was actually better off where I was. I wish I would have put my glasses on though because my dad said he could see the walls shaking.  The shaking lasted for what seemed like a good 15 or 30 seconds, again I was half asleep so I really have no idea.  Earthquakes make such a bizarre rumbling noise, it's a little unnerving haha.

So yeah, my mom came inside and we tried calling my brother and my grandma but our landline was down and the cell phones were all tied up.  Shortly after though my grandma managed to call my cell phone and we made sure everyone was okay.  I turned on the TV and left the news on all day long, until around 7 PM or so.  Not really sure why since there wasn't much damage or anything, but you just can't beat the excitement a natural disaster brings.  An hour or two after the initial 'quake, I felt one aftershock that only lasted a couple of seconds but did give two good jolts.  I, of course, was still wrapped up in my blanket in bed watching TV and talking excitedly to my friends on Facebook about what had just happened.  I was also busily informing everyone who was out of state what they had just missed =]  But...yeah...

OH and also adding to the excitement...in the afternoon I received my eBay purchase!  YAY!  I ordered the Wayne's World VCR board game, and I'm so excited to play it!  It's unused too, all the cards are still wrapped and everything.  Tomorrow I'll have to give it a run so I can make sure the tape works before I leave feedback.

So now I'm going to attempt to go to sleep, even though I'm a little scared to because:
A) I really don't want to be woken up by an earthquake again, haha.
B) Earlier, my mom and I both smelled chlorine and the scent of something electrical burning.  Now, I love the smell of chlorine (because I'm weird like that) but we have no idea where it was coming from.  Same for the burning smell.  So I'm afraid I'm going to like asphyxiate or the house is going to spontaneously combust or something.  But it's been a couple hours and the smells seem to have gone away and I'm still alive so I suppose it's safe.

Gosh, I wrote a lot!  And I used way too many parentheses, haha.  OH, and the damn earthquake magically made the damn cuckoo clock start working again!  AHHHH!  Oh well.  I'll leave you with what I HAD to watch today =]  And yes, I do remember the Northridge 'Quake, that one was fun.  At least I was already awake when that happened (don't ask why a 2 year old was awake at 4:30 or whenever it happened...I really don't know, but I can vividly remember the events).  ANYWAYS I'm having a serious problem with ranting right now as I typically do after excitement such as this sooo let's cut to the video!

Mama Mia

My name is Amy, and I'm a makeupholic.  Seriously, I need help.  Lately I've been addicted to watching tutorials and haul videos on YouTube and I've just been going crazy!  I think it's because it's more fun to do makeup with contacts.  But yeah...I went to CVS to get some rubbing alcohol so I can fix an eyeshadow that I bought and immediately dropped and shattered (because I am a klutz) and I noticed that a lot of their makeup was on sale.  Danger!  I got 3 of the HIP eyeshadow duos, one of the eyeshadow stick thingies, and a NYC lipgloss =]  So I'm happy.  I need to reorganize my makeup though, because in my vanity I have like a drawer for eyeliners and lipliners and stuff, one for rings, one for bracelets, one for hair stuff, one for eyeshadows, one for face makeup, and one for lip products...and the eyeshadow one is full.  I had to take stuff out of it and leave it out so gahhh.  I really want to go get a nice train case from Sephora.  I also need more brushes because up until now I was lazy and just used the little applicators that came with eyeshadow but I really prefer brushes now and I don't have many at all.  So...yup!  Oh, and I discovered the joys of trying to balance out your checkbook when something's wrong haha.  Apparently some money that my mom was supposed to transfer to my account never made it so my balance was all off and the bank had to transfer money from my savings to my checking.  Craziness.  But luckily now I have like $50 more than I thought I did!

Now I'm going to go and go through boxes of stuff, because I've been bribed with promises of makeup and brushes and other goodies.  Oh my.

Born To Be Alive

Hello! It's been a few days. Not much is new in the world of Amy. I'm kind of on a normal sleeping schedule again though, yay! That's just because yesterday I went to see the first episode of this new show called Hole In The Wall get taped, and it was exhausting. Hole In The Wall is basically the American version of that Japanese human Tetris video on YouTube, so it was pretty awesome. But again, it was so exhausting! I got up at 10, after not being able to fall asleep until after 4, and got ready. Then at noon I left to get gas and I got to Jonathan's house at about 12:15 or so, and we were off. Traffic was excellent, so we made it out to Studio City by 1, and we went to CBS to see if we could park and wait since we didn't need to be there until 2. But nope, we had to come back at 2, so we went to find something to do for an hour. There was a little street festival going on so parking was scarce and we had to go a ways down Ventura before we found a tiny shopping center with some parking spots. We looked around in a pet store and got some cheesy bread from Domino's (my first thing to eat all day). Then we headed back, parked, and got in line. We stood in line for 40 minutes before they told us they were running late, and to either hang out or just come back at 3:30. So we waited, got back in line at 3:30...and then stood in line. A lot. At about 4 they moved us from a line on the second floor of the garage down to the first floor. Then at about 4:30 they moved us to a line outside of the garage in the freaking hot sun. Then at 4:45 we stood in line outside one of the sound stages, and by 5 we were finally in. Then they expected us to stand and scream and cheer and bang "Thunder Stix" together. It took them like 3 hours and 15 minutes to tape the freaking half-hour show. I've been to other tapings, so I knew it took a long time (I was at Beauty and the Geek for 6 hours), but it's still not something you look forward to. After the show was done they tried to get us to stay by bribing us with free pizza and VIP tickets to America's Got Talent and to come back and see Hole In The Wall again. By this time, however, Jonathan and I had sore throats, we were tired, and the irritating cheerleaders from a rival high school who were sitting in front of us were getting on our last nerves. So we bailed and went to Denny's on Sunset! Denny's after dark in LA is always full of exciting people. So, yeah, we had breakfast for dinner at like 8:30, we were out of there by 9:15, and I didn't get home until 10:15. Over 12 hours of nonstop action...so I was dead tired. Went right to sleep. I didn't even check Facebook! Haha, that's impressive.

Wow, that's a big chunk of words up there. No one's gonna read that, but oh well. Today I went to the mall! Yay! And I went broke! Haha. I got awesome stuff though. I got two really super awesome new eye shadows from Sephora. They're Shady Lady eye shadows by The Balm and they're sooo pretty (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P157200&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=2911)! I got Curvy Cami, which is a super cute shimmery light purple, and I got Jealous Jordana, which is a dark shimmery emerald color. I love them! I also got an Overshadow (also by The Balm, http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188502&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=2911). It's called No Money, No Honey and it's gorgeous! It's a very light shimmery mineral powder to put on over eyeshadow to give it some glimmer. Then I went over to Victoria's Secret Beauty in search of a volumizing spray I read about in Seventeen or Cosmo GIRL! or something. Those salespeople are good! I wanted one freaking $15 hair product...I walked out with 6 things and spent like $52. I got my volumizing spray (which I just tried and it's FABULOUS! I press my hair and I feel the poof, haha), some straightening balm (which I also tried and it's lovely, my hair is straight, smooth, and frizz-free! http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=9B-212170&page=1&cgname=OSBAFONEZZZ&rfnbr=5222), wave enhancing spray (which I'm going to try tomorrow, http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=9B-212171&page=1&cgname=OSBAFONEZZZ&rfnbr=5222), hair reviving towelettes (which sounds exciting), Love Spell refreshing body mist (it smells so good, and I never would have looked at it if my mom hadn't been a 'tard and spilled it on herself, http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=9B-206453&page=2&cgname=OSBAFNUPZZZ&rfnbr=5218), and a big pink Beauty Candy tote bag that came with 3 mini body sprays =] So it was a productive day! Now it's off to sleep, goodnight!

God Bless America

So I just realized I completely forgot that I was going to talk about my 4th of July.  And so I've just decided to dedicate a separate entry to it.

I had a pretty good 4th.  Went to my grandma's, as tradition requires, and had fun.  I ate way too much, hah.  Because I'm incredibly lazy, I typically only eat one real meal a day and then just kind of eat sporadically when I'm hungry throughout the rest of the day.  So eating filet mignon...and a hot dog...and corn on the cob...and potato salad...and bread...and pink stuff (a stupid name, but absolutely delicious)...and ambrosia salad...and 2 different kinds of pie...and cookies...was just kind of a bad idea.  But I couldn't resist!  And after all the indulgence, we shot off loads of fireworks, as usual.

OH OH OH but we were all angry!  Because the people across the street from my grandma's house were outside doing fireworks too, and they were playing Mexican music really really loud.  And I mean, come on, it's the freaking FOURTH OF JULY...also known as AMERICA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY!  Please do not take advantage of a national holiday as simply an opportunity to blow shit up.  You could at least play some music in our national language, for Christ's sake.

So being the type of family that we are, we retaliated.  We rolled down the windows of my mom's car, put in a patriotic CD, and cranked up the volume.  And once we had gone through the CD twice and realized we'd forgotten all our other CDs at home, we just had fun with it.  We played some random stuff off of our iPods =]  We heard a little CCR and some Tennessee Ernie Ford from my mom's iPod, and then we broke mine out.  We heard the freaking song from the Main Street Electrical Parade, we had some yodeling, the Lawrence Welk Show theme, some crazy Ultra Lounge music...just some fun stuff.  The people across the street didn't turn off their music right away but they did stand there and stare at us for quite a while.  Then, eventually, they turned off their music and went inside.  Score!

So yeah...then we watched some of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, because seriously, what's more American than a bunch of rednecks telling mainly bathroom related jokes?  Yeah...it was a good Fourth =]

Riki Tiki Tavi

Hello, faithful (yet completely nonexistent) readers!  It's been a while.  A few exciting things have been going on, but nothing terribly thrilling.  June 29th marked the one year anniversary of me getting my driver's license, so now all restrictions are lifted and it feels great!  Also, Monday I'm getting my braces partially removed, and 2 weeks after that they come off completely, so that's exciting.  Also, about 2 1/2 weeks ago I got contacts!  I've tried them two or three times before, but they were always too dry and uncomfortable for me.  This time, I got the Acuvue Oasys contacts, and they're wonderful.  Contacts are fun, and I'm loving sunglasses =]

Hmm...I did laundry for the very first time the other day, so that was kinda cool.  I've also been working on cleaning my room.  My little vanity area is all nice and organized now so I'm having fun with my makeup.  I'd really like to do a little room tour video or even just a minitour of my vanity.  If I have time tomorrow I will, but that really depends on when I get up since I'm going to a barbecue at 4:30.

In other news...I was just watching some stuff on YouTube about making a video to win tickets to the premiere of that movie Garden Party.  I'm kind of interested, but I haven't really come up with any entry ideas yet and I'm still not completely positive I have the whole idea straight.  The whole thing is just kind of confusing, haha.  But we'll see.  Ooh, I've just randomly decided on my outfit and makeup for the barbecue!  Yay!  I'm excited to do that haha.  It's going to require straightening my hair though, ick.  I kinda hate that but I'll give it a shot.

Well this blog is going absolutely nowhere, so I'm going to go and continue rereading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and maybe watch some of Adventures in Babysitting (because that movie makes me happy inside) and try to sleep, but most likely fail.  Goodnight!
