Mickey Mouse Club March

So today I became the proud owner of two female mice.  I've always thought mice were adorable and whenever I go to the pet store I get stuck watching them run around and play for at least 10 minutes.  They are also an animal I've yet to own, and I seem to have some subconscious plan to own every species possible throughout my lifetime.  I mean, I've already had fish, turtles, rabbits, dogs, cats, a horse, hermit crabs, a snake...it just seemed like a logical step.  I've also been kind of depressed lately and I thought that something cute and fuzzy that I've wanted for pretty much my entire life and that I can dote on and give copious amounts of attention to might help my mood a bit.

So I got two females due to the fact that pairing males typically leads to fighting, and pairing a male and a female typically leads to more mice than you can shake a stick at, as their gestation period is just 3 to 4 weeks, and then they're ready to pop out some more.  I haven't taken any pictures yet because I want to get them a little more comfortable in their new surroundings before I attack them with a flashing camera, but they're quite adorable.  I've only named one of the two so far, because I thought I'd name them according to their personalities.  Monkey is a very nice tan color, and she is so named due to the fact that while I was assembling the big cage, she was hanging upside down from the wires of the small cage she was in.  The nameless one is black and white and seems to have ADHD.  Whereas Monkey is slightly timid but quite friendly, no name has been running all over the cage, climbing here and there and trying to gnaw through the bars.  She also bit me when I held her, when Monkey just liked exploring and sat down in my palm to wash her face.

I'm considering naming black and white Dory if I can't think of anything better, simply because having mice named Monkey and Dory would amuse me.  I also considered Punky, but I'll see if she's a little friendlier tomorrow when she's settled in or if she actually does deserve a name like that.  I'm glad that the two of them get along though.  They teamed up to try to chew out of the cardboard carrier on the car ride home, and now that they're in their new home they're curled up in their food bowl sleeping right next to each other.

I hope that they become a little more adventurous tomorrow too, as right now they seem perfectly content to hang out on the middle level of their tri-level abode.  I also hope they know where their water is, because I haven't seen them drink any yet.

In other news, I went to Tucson over spring break, and that was fun.  I'd quite like to move there for school in the fall, but my mother seems determined to break my spirit and lock me up in this stupid little house forever.  Now I'm off to sleep!  Goodnight.
